The barbecue is close to becoming a regular household term these days. It is extremely difficult today to locate a middle or upper class home in the United States of America that has never encountered a barbecue in the past. Even though the common forms of barbecue involve the cooking of meat, barbecuing does not stop there. The term barbecue involve not just recipes involving meat, but a plethora of varied kinds of recipes that include vegetarian dishes, fish and almost every kind of edible item known to mankind.

A large number of cookbooks provide extensive recipes for the most delectable barbecued delicacies known around the world. Web sites on the Internet provide ample information regarding barbecuing and also provide catalogues of different kinds of recipes.

For the individual who has been a veteran in the art of barbecuing, these recipes are a treasure trove. The true capabilities of a barbecue grill are exercised and tested to the limit in many of these recipes, providing unbelievably exquisite results. For an amateur in the field of barbecuing, the number of ingredients that can be included in a barbecue might come as a surprise. Truly enough, some of the more elaborate barbecue recipes include more ingredients that a standard main course would require to be prepared.

Barbecue sauce is another important component in most recipes of barbecues. Different recipes require specific kinds of barbecue sauce as garnishing. Although some people do not prefer the use of condiments, barbecue sauce is widely used in a variety of barbecue recipes and it is not an arguable fact that a barbecue recipe remains incomplete without the sauce.

Barbecue recipes cover wide varieties of food. Standard preparations of meat such as chicken, lamb, beef and duck are followed by vegetarian preparations including eggplants and baby corn. The richness of taste that is unique to barbecuing is rendered in each of these preparations. The list does not stop there, either. Barbecuing accommodates every kind of dish that has to be cooked - from appetizers to desserts. Sauces, rubs and marinades can also be prepared using barbecue grilles just the way they can be prepared using standard ovens in the kitchen. In areas where seafood is common, barbecues can also be used to prepare excellent dishes using seafood as the primary or base ingredient.

Burgers, kebabs and roasts are among the most popular barbecue recipes. Kebabs were originally recognized as exclusively Indian tandoori preparations. However, they have come to be adapted as dishes that can be prepared using barbecue grilles or smokers as well.

As a general trait of most barbecue preparations, each barbecue recipe can be seasoned by the addition of specific condiments to for not just seasonal, but also regional variations in the preparation. Recipes are generally classified into different categories not just according to whether they are vegetarian or non-vegetarian, or according to their base ingredient.

Barbecue recipes are also classified according to the variations observed in them from region to region. The addition of special touches and barbecuing conventions make each variation unique from the rest.
