Stains On A Perfect Barbecue Day
Imagine a perfect summer afternoon with your family. You have decided
to barbecue outdoors for a change to enjoy the perfect sunshine and
fresh air. And of course, you have been dying to test that new barbecue
grill of yours. The day has gone well all the way. Now, what could possibly
ruin such a beautiful day?
A glance at your favorite shirt reveals the answer. A prominent barbecue stain, no doubt from the special barbecue sauce that you enjoyed immensely, is the culprit. The perfect day ends with the loss of one of the best items of your wardrobe.
Again, imagine having the barbecued food indoors. Everything goes perfect until your favorite carpet gets a large dollop of barbecue sauce. Unless such an incident receives immediate attention, the stain has a high chance of becoming permanent. An excellent carpet gone down the drain. What else could be worse when one has been enjoying heartily?
The word 'nuisance' defines barbecue stains accurately, as it does most other persistent stains. Thorough laundering can remove stains considerably. However, a high degree of promptness accompanied by a bit of luck is required in order to be able to remove a stain completely. If you are prompt in your observation and quick in your reaction, you will be able to remove most of the stains completely.
The nature of a barbecue stain depends obviously on the ingredients of the barbecue sauce. Some barbecue sauces leave stains that are removed easily. However, other kinds of sauces can leave more permanent stains. However, the procedure for removing barbecue stains is the same for almost all the sauces.
The first step when a fabric receives a stain is to scrape it thoroughly with a blunt knife or a similar scraping object. This is necessary in order to dislodge the dense ingredients of the barbecue that tend to weave in between the strands of fabrics and become permanent. This should be done thoroughly, but carefully, so that the fabric itself does not get damaged in the process.
Allowing water to percolate from the reverse of the stain can remove most of the stain. Finally, the fabric should be thoroughly washed using a detergent. For white clothes, bleach may be used. However, one should check whether a fabric has been tested to tolerate bleach before doing this. In case of detergents, it is advisable to use liquid detergents. Mild detergents do not damage the fabric like strong detergents do. Blotting a bit of mild detergent over the stain ensures that the stain is removed as much as possible.
Using spin-drying equipment can make the stain spread even more and even make it become deep seated. Always allow wet clothes that have received a barbecue stain to air dry. Advanced stain removing solutions are also available in the market.
You can try the above mentioned procedures or send the fabric to professional cleaners. What ever happens, do not let a simple stain ruin a perfect day for a barbecue!
